Tournaments 2012
Club Opener
This is the CVTC’s opening tournament of the season and participation is limited to club members only. For the past several years, the format has been a mixed doubles compass draw with the women switching sides before each match. In other words, the emphasis is on fun and just getting out there and into the swing of things for the year, reacquainting with old friends and meeting new friends. There is no elimination and everyone plays about the same amount of games.

Traditionally our most popular tournament, this is an Open, mixed doubles format. Although we do get some tough “come from afar” teams each year, everyone is encouraged to find a partner and enter. The format is to-be-determined; in the past we’ve tried both compass draws and traditional A, B, C double elimination draws with good success. As with all of our Open tournaments, entry size may be limited, so enter early.

To Ben, sportsmanship was more important than winning and he
played tennis as he lived his life, best summed up in his own words
in a short story, written shortly before his untimely death:
“I hope that I could look back on my life and be proud of
myself and not have any regrets.”
Ben Bellamy, aged 16, was killed by a reckless driver, 21 February, 1998
Tennis BC’s Rix Rookie Tour
The CVTC is proud to join the Rix Rookie Tour. Organized by Tennis BC, the tour was started by former World #1 Men’s Doubles player Grant Connell as a way to bridge the gap between beginner tennis and competitive tournaments. The event is named in appreciation of Donald and Eleanor Rix’s generous donation to the "Tennis Matters" campaign to support youth tennis programming in BC.
Rix Rookie Tournaments are for beginning juniors or those with limited playing experience. Held in over 30 BC communities, it is a fun, one-day, non-elimination tournament for boys and girls aged 8 to 13. Each participant gets a Rookie Tour T-shirt, lots of fun tennis, plus food and beverages throughout the day-long event.
